Fortnite Shop Token: What It Is and How to Get It

The Fortnite shop token is what players call Pirate Shop Access, the rarest prize in the Treasure Hunters mini season. Pull a pirate shop token out of a Battle Royale chest and you can claim anything priced in V-Bucks from the Item Shop for free for 14 days, once in 2026 and once more in 2027.

What the Pirate Shop token actually gives you

Finding the token doesn’t hand you one skin. It hands you the whole shop, for a while. When a chest rolls Pirate Shop Access you get two tokens: Pirate Shop Access (2026) and Pirate Shop Access (2027). Each one, once activated, lets you claim anything sold for V-Bucks in the Item Shop for 14 days. That’s up to four weeks of free cosmetics across two years.

There are limits. Real-money offers (Starter Packs, Quest Packs, V-Bucks bundles), gifting and Battle Pass levels are excluded, and you can only claim one Sidekick you don’t already own. Bundles are a grey area: some outlets say they’re excluded, others only rule out cash offers, so check for a claim button after you activate. Players who’ve used it report that claimed items stay in the locker after the 14 days end.

How to get a Fortnite shop token

There’s no quest, code or purchase. The token is one of the Treasure Hunt prizes that can roll when you open a chest in Battle Royale during the mini season. Regular chests have been reskinned as treasure chests, so you don’t need to hunt for anything special. Most rolls give Gizmos like the Sprite Locator or Portable Extractor, sometimes a cosmetic, and very rarely Pirate Shop Access.

You’ll know when you hit it: the chest glows and shakes for a few seconds, bursts gold, and a YOU FOUND PIRATE SHOP ACCESS banner fills the screen. Multiple outlets report the prize is shared with everyone in your party, which makes squads the best way to grind. The full step-by-step, including activation, is in our how to get the Fortnite shop token guide.

Drop rate: what we actually know

Not much, and anyone quoting an exact percentage is guessing. Epic’s Treasure Hunters announcement and the in-game Pirate Shop screen don’t list odds. The figure you’ll see everywhere is roughly 1 in 700,000 chests, first shared by a content creator as “first reported odds” with no method behind it. We show it because it’s the number players search for, not because it’s proven.

The best real data point: early winner snowslept reportedly opened around 150 chests across three matches before the token dropped in a normal Solos game. That’s one lucky player, not a benchmark. We break down what the estimate would mean in practice on the Fortnite shop token chance page.

Where to farm chests

The token has no fixed spawn, so the real question is where you can open the most chests per match. Crossbones Isle has 901 chest spawn spots, 243 of them guaranteed, according to Destructoid’s map. Guides consistently point to Arlong Park and Lantern Landing as the densest drops, with Loguetown, Plunder Port, Busy Bay, Rubber Resort and Fortune’s Fort close behind. Chest refills during a match also mean an emptied POI can be worth a second pass. See every hotspot on our shop token locations guide.

When to activate it

Your 14 days start when you press Activate Now, not when you find the token. So don’t fire it off straight away. Watch the shop rotation for a few days and activate when skins you actually want are coming through. Just don’t miss the deadline: the 2026 token has to be activated by December 15, 2026 (6 p.m. GMT-6, per the in-game screen). The 2027 token runs on its own schedule.

Don’t fall for “free token” sites

Pirate Shop Access is tied to the Epic account that found it. It can’t be traded, gifted or sold, and there are no codes. Any site, Discord or video promising a free Pirate Shop token, a generator or an account with access is trying to steal your login. We’ll never sell or link to anything like that.

FAQ

How rare is the Pirate Shop token?

Extremely rare. Epic hasn't published a drop rate. The number going around, about 1 in 700,000 chests, is a community estimate that Epic has not confirmed, so treat it as a rough guess rather than a fact.

Is the Pirate Shop token real?

Yes. Pirate Shop Access is an official Treasure Hunters reward from Epic Games, and players have already found it in normal Battle Royale matches. A winning chest glows gold and shows a YOU FOUND PIRATE SHOP ACCESS banner.

Can you get the Fortnite item shop for free?

Only with Pirate Shop Access. Once you activate it, everything priced in V-Bucks is free to claim for 14 days, except real-money offers, gifts and pass levels, and you only get one free Sidekick. Any site offering free shop access or token codes is a scam.

Where can I find secret chests in Fortnite?

There is no special secret chest for the token. During Treasure Hunters every regular chest on Crossbones Isle is a treasure chest that can roll the prize, so the best move is landing at chest-heavy spots like Arlong Park or Lantern Landing.
